Art Process
To look for estheticism in proportions, in particular dynamics, which are sometimes amazing, and in the infinitely complex beauty which is smoothed under the filtering caress on the fingers scale. In all my artworks, mathematical properties take the shape of odd objects. Then they are unveiled and their reality is shared by the artist and the observers.
I am particularly interested in dynamic sculptures, which will be introduced later in this presentation.
Here, I present a sculptural project, which has been selected by Michelin Company for its new Michelin Conference Center in Greenville (USA). "Innovation" is a praise of avant-garde spirit and challenge.
Three more pieces of work presented here are based on fractal mathematics which lead us to a chaotic world . An amazing chaos with strange symmetries hiding unlimited diversities and yet more.
The link between infinite complexity and the simplicity of the underlying mathematical postulates is a fascinating aspect of this virtual world. These sculptures, mathematically defined, are of a restrained design. Volumes are based on the fractal geometry of functions in the complex numbers set.
The artist's tool is not a chisel; stone is not the basic creative materialization. The sculptor uses the mathematical expressions and its parameters to give shape to a spatial artwork. It is here! It could have been but a vague picture of dreamlike quality hidden from human eyes. It is a question of making its geometry real.
So these fractal sculptures are between creation and discovery. The sculptor did not create them in emptiness. A veil draped over their underlying reality allowed their existence to be shared.
They are today virtual sculptures whose functions have to be exposed to the world to become physical reality, monumental sculptures in public areas: a meeting place, a silent companion in the souvenir pictures, a landmark, an object of debate …
They can be strange, sensual, aggressive, harmonic, svelte, avant-garde sculptures; a future projection or a nostalgic vision of a moderniste living cathedral tower.
